Two weeks ago, yesterday, I emptied out my junk mail folder, since it was consuming vast amounts of disk space.
Since then, in just the junk mail folder -- which contains only those spam which were detected -- I have accumulated nearly five thousand messages.
That's nearly ten thousand per month, and I know there are people out there getting more. Seriously, I don't want to hear people whining about getting a couple dozen a day. Today alone, I received three dozen messages from someone trying to impersonate me. You want an easy way to bypass a spam filter? Make it look like the intended recipient was the one who sent it, and send it to a bogus address.
I've downloaded a Bayesian filter, like I used to have, which is currently training itself against my inbox. It's been going at it for several hours, and I expect it to continue for quite some time. I've given it quite a corpus of good and bad email; hopefully it'll do the trick.
